I knew I was on to something when I stopped drinking diet sodas. Check THIS out...George AND Barbara Bush both have Grave's!
When I worked at Morinda/TNI, I had to write some catalog pages about why we were better than our competitors. One of my points was that one competitor used stevia, a non-FDA-approved herbal sweetener. All my research led me to articles about how Monsanto was basically bullying the FDA to allow aspartame (Equal/ Nutrasweet) and to ban all other sweeteners, even though stevia appeared to be safe and natural, used for thousands of years.
Having to crank out deceptive info even in the "trusted" health food industry made me wonder how huge the FDA racket really is...I mean, if even SOME of the claims are true, then Monsanto essentially provided the medical world & insurance companies with a steady stream of sick people for 20 years! I'm not generally a suspicious, conspiracy-theory-type person, but it's troublemsome, especially to someone who drank 2 12-packs of caffeine free diet Coke per week for ten years!

Stevia...yeah, my in-laws discovered that one years ago and use it almost exlusively as a sweetener. We even have a small bottle. I'd go with it, although too much makes stuff taste extremely bitter.
Soda is bad on so many levels! You should read the book, The China Study, if you want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes!
I just can't read up on any studies about soda because I'm too much IN LOVE! I think I might vomit if I knew to much. I HATE atifical sweetners anyways. I have never been able to stand diet anything!
There's lesson one, Jamie, and you obviously don't need me to tell you: Stevia is your friend.
Thanks for the comments everyone! Audrey, I am totally ordering that book! Jill, one way or another, the soda will come back to bite in the booty. Gram and I were talking the other night about THEIR new diet restrictions, and we agreed that one way or another, your body will DEMAND healthy food...even if it waits til you're 80! And Geo, I appreciate every little bit of advice you have to give. And there's no rush...take your time answering my email!
What is stevia and where do yu purchace it? How is it better than raw sugar and why would you want to use it?Honey is my sweetener of choice. Is Stevia better than honey? Love you !!! Auntie M
BROCCOLI BROWNIES!!??? Does the world get better than this? I submit that it cannot! Wow! Yes please! Pass it along! You are such a genius! I admire your efforts to keep your family so well fed, I am so on that kick right now. We just had that lesson in Young Womans this past Sunday and my mind has really been turning about that. I've been freaking out about the way my kids have been eating since I usually work during dinner time now. Matt does his best but...he's a man and that usually means quick and easy (not so nutritional). He totally surprised me though coming home from the store the other day with loads of fresh fruits and veggies. What a great daddy! He does so much that is not usually in his realm. Ahh, bless 'em.
Thank you for your comment. I LOVED what you said about the natural man in us. So true. Even in our best efforts, it's hard not to feel angry when someone hurts us. But if we're trying hard to keep our hearts in the right place, allowing the atonement to work for ourselves and for others is where the healing really begins. Good stuff.
Email me some more of your secret super mom recipes!
love you

Jamie-- You totally have to read "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle". It really is all about our stewardship over the earth and how our eating/buying habits hurt the environment. It has tons about Monsanto. It is not mormon but very interesting, VERY well researched and a great read. I have made little changes just by reading it. I really felt that stewardship and that I need to do more. It is by Barbara Kingsolver (also wrote the Poisonwood Bible.)
hi jamie,
have you seen the documentary "The Future of Food"? It talks about monsanto.
