Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven

I just left the following comment on Mollie's blog, in response to a movie quote quiz (she asked what movie and character said this:" you killed my father; prepare to die"--she didn't realize that at BYU, The Princess Bride is like Rocky Horror in other towns--people go see it on a regualr basis at the campus theatre and say all the lines and throw peanuts when Fezzik says, "Anybody wanna peanut?") Here's my comment:

I didn't officially date until I was 16 in 1987, and guess what my first official date was? Yep, the premier of The Princess Bride! And guess who took me? The boy a year older (Robert) whom I had written crushingly about in my journal every day of the previous school year (when he didn't even know my name!) After the movie we got ice cream and went to the end of a dance at my church where they played U2's "Running to Stand Still" as the last song and he sang in my ear as we slow-danced in the church gym. I challenge you to show me a better moment of teenage bliss than this. I might even argue that it was as good as the ending of Sixteen Candles. Ah, yeah. I still love the Princess Bride--just got it on DVD at Target for $7!

Got any sweet stories of Teenage bliss? Feel free to comment, people.

Oh, and PS: The title of this post is a Love & Rockets album title, too.

At the time, I thought I was in teenage bliss, but as I look back the story I am about to share is extreemly cheesy! I went to a stake dance with Affee the summer before I was 14 so I shouldn't have been there. A really cute guy asked me to dance with him. He asked me how old I was and I lied and said 15. So we hit it off but I was going home to Ohio in like 2 days and didn't talk to him again. Not until the following summer when I was 14 going on 15 and I went to another stake dance. This time I was old enough to be there! I was dancing around and having fun when I realized that the guy djing was this guy. btw its Eric Greer. We spotted each other and he told me not to leave because he wanted to dance with me. A few minutes later he told me to come up on stage and had Lady in Red playing. At that moment I felt like I was on clound 9! He asked me how old I was and I said 15. again! I am an idiot. I wasn't even 15 yet! So another year went by. We didn't talk at all. I went to visit dad the summer I was 15 going on 16. We went to the church ball park for the flag cerimony and breakfast for the fourth. As I was sitting there, I noticed Eric Greer was in the bleachers as well. We got to talking and once again he said "So how old are you again?" I said 15 but this time I wasn't lying! He looked so confused but I told him I had lied to him before. He was preparing for his mission and had just turned 19. I went out with him for fun that summer even though I shouldn't have been! As I look back this is one of my favorite stories. I was so infatuated with him and to this day I can't hear Lady in Red with out thinking of him!

yayyy!!! you are my new friend for posting pictures of your gorgeous view, so I can be vicariously out in the country!!!!

hmmmmm, teenage bliss. I have more memories of teenage angst, but that is just the kind of person I am, ha!!!

One time, my boyfriend and I were making out in the front seat of his huge green mercury cougar. I was sitting in the middle of the front (bench) seat of course, and we were reallly making out @ a red light. We hear a honk, and it turns out he had taken his foot off the brake, and was about 1 centimeter away from rear-ending the car in front of him. eeeek!!! and, I remember the song playing on the radio was "boys of summer".

Jill, I love that story about you be 15 for 3 years! I did the same thing--I told Sabino boys I went to Sahuaro, when I was really in 7th and 8th grade at Magee!!! NERDS!

Mollie, I have some vivid memories to "Boys of Summer", too!!! That song is classic! And I love the cover that came out a while ago, and how it says, "I saw a Black Flagg sticker on a Cadillac." I have another teenage bliss story to post soon. This one revolves around "Your Wildest Drea" by Moody Blues, so stay tuned, yall!

hmmm, Thinking back on teenage bliss, I thought we were so cool, my friend Lynda and I went to a big JCC (Jewish Community Center ) dance one Saturday night and saw all the kids we went to high school with. We also found the St.David boys, who were the ones to be seen with. The Trejo boys, The Dever boys and Tom I can't remember his last name. We got a ride with them to our car over in the church (ours) parking lot. We thought we were All That........it is all so silly now that we are all in our fifties and grandparents.
